Description
Expand Your Liquid Culture Mix with Dextrose and Light Malt Extract (DLME)
Our product contains Corn Dextrose and Light Malt Extract, offering one of the best recipes for expanding your liquid culture compared to using just Honey, Karo, or Glucose Syrup.
Benefits of Using Light Malt Extract: When inoculating grain spawn, colonization is much faster since the mycelium has been predisposed to the sugar from grain (in this case, barley). Similarly, when making Malt Extract Agar Plates (MEA), colonization is considerably faster as the mycelium is already accustomed to the sugar.
Benefits of Using Dextrose: Dextrose provides sugars and a range of basic minerals, vitamins, and salts beneficial for the growth of mushroom mycelium. It creates a clear liquid culture, making it easier to spot contamination.
We also offer a Supercharged Liquid Culture Mix in our store.
Your Purchase Includes:
Note: Mycelium or Liquid Culture Jars are not included. Check out our other listings to add Mycelium and Liquid Culture Jars with Injection Port and Air Filter Vent. You can use these to expand your liquid cultures at home.
Water Ratios:
- For every 10g of DLME, add 500ml of water
- 100g can make up to 5 liters of liquid cultures
- 250g can make up to 12.5 liters of liquid cultures
Instructions:
- Sterilization: Sterilize in an autoclave at 15 psi for 20 minutes or in a microwave for 2 minutes, 3 times.
- Ensure the marble or stirrer is inside the jar before sterilizing your liquid culture medium.
- Once sterilization is complete, cool your jar until it reaches room temperature.
- Inoculate the jar with clean liquid culture and keep it in a dark space for 1-2 weeks to colonize completely.
- Stir the jar using a magnetic stirrer for 5 minutes, or swirl with a marble 5-10 times to break up the mycelium and promote growth.
- Be careful not to break your glass mason jars when swirling with a marble.
- Some sedimentation might be present at the bottom of the jar after sterilization. This is normal.
Usage: The liquid culture mix can be used in various cultivation techniques. Once prepared, you can inject the liquid culture into sterilized grain jars/bags, agar Petri dishes, or another jar containing LC mix to create more liquid culture. For aggressive strains like oysters and Reishi, you can even use it to colonize substrates directly.
