You can collect spores from around the world, observe their unique geometry, or save them for future use.
What is a spore booklet?
A spore booklet consists of two panes of glass taped together on one side. Once the spore print is collected, the remaining three sides are sealed with masking tape.
Please note: Masking tape and the actual mushroom spore print are not included with your order.
Preparing the slide:
- Clean the inside of the glass with soapy water.
- Once dried, use alcohol to wipe the glass.
- Place a mushroom to collect the spore print.
- After 12-24 hours, you should have your spore print.
- Close the glass and seal the three sides with masking tape.
The glass is large enough to take spore prints for the majority of mushroom strains.
Storage:
Spores can be stored inside these Glass Spore Print Slides for years if protected from light, moisture, and drastic temperature changes. Keep the slides with mushroom spore prints in a dark, cool, dry spot at room temperature. Prints stored this way can last for years.
Quality:
These slides are of premium quality, made in Germany. The edges of the glass are cut at 90 degrees and polished to protect against cuts while handling.
To germinate the spores:
- Use an inoculation loop and flame sterilize it.
- Cool the loop on the same agar plate where you wish to germinate the spores.
- Collect a few spores from your spore print and make an ‘S’ pattern on your agar plate.
- Leave it in a dark spot for 2-3 weeks to germinate.
